Drawing blood from patients and blood donors
Evaluating patients' ability to withstand the procedure and helping them feel comfortable
Explaining blood-drawing procedure to patients and answering questions
Performing basic point-of-care testing, such as reading blood glucose levels
Preparing blood, urine and other specimens for testing
Maintaining medical equipment such as needles, test tubes and blood vials
CPT Certification Requirements
The Certified Phlebotomy Technician Program prepares individuals, under the mentorship of seasoned physicians and healthcare maestros, you'll learn to skillfully and safely collect blood samples using a variety of procedures. This program Includes instruction in basic vascular anatomy and physiology, blood physiology, skin puncture techniques, venipuncture, venous specimen collection and handling, safety and sanitation procedures, and applicable standards and regulations.
Requirements:
The applicant must be at least 18 years of age, and possess a high school diploma or equivalent, to participate in the CPT Certification Program.
Applicants must also demonstrate the ability to meet each of the essential function/technical standards required to work as a successful CPT.
The applicant will need to successfully complete the training hours and successfully pass the NHA phlebotomy technician certification exam.
Applicants will be required to pass a criminal background check.
Three forms of valid identification are required.
Must perform 30 successful venipunctures throughout the course.
